Mo Beck, DVM (he/they)

VETERINARIAN, EDUCATOR, & OWNER

Dr. Mo (he/they) earned their doctorate degree from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, then went on to complete a Small Animal rotating internship, followed by a specialty internship in Exotic Pet Medicine. He has been working with wildlife and exotics in the U.S. and abroad for nearly a decade in a variety of settings such as hospitals, aquariums, zoos, and more. Dr. Mo started BVS with the mission of increasing accessibility to high-quality, welfare-driven, evidence-based veterinary care for exotic pets and collections in Rhode Island. Dr. Mo is also a dedicated educator with over ten years of experience teaching in universities, summer camps, scout groups, conferences, and classrooms of all ages. BVS offers unique educational programs and opportunities with the goals of inspiring appreciation for animals, mentoring future animal care professionals, advocating for animal welfare, and spreading awareness about conservation. In their spare time, Dr. Mo enjoys being outside, especially near the water, seeing live music, spending time with his own exotic critters, and exploring new places!

Julia, CVT

Veterinary Technician

Julia has been working as a Certified Veterinary Technician since graduating Becker College in 2018. While she loves working with dogs and cats, the variety, personalities, and connections we can make with exotic pets is what makes them special to her. Julia loves the challenge and learning curve associated with the more unusual creatures we share our homes with. She even has a small "zoo" of my own; consisting of dogs, cats, a degu, lizards, sugar gliders, a turtle, a snake, and a hedgehog!

Shayne

Veterinary Technician

Growing up, Shayne always had a love for animals. Like most kids, she of course loved dogs and cats, but her iguana, Gary, started a love for the misunderstood exotic pets. Shayne started her work with animals as a cashier at Petco 10 years ago, which helped blossom a passion for making sure our pocket pets and scaly friends get the love and care they deserve. Transitioning into the veterinary field almost 5 years ago has allowed her to cultivate this passion and expand my knowledge in animal care. Shayne loves working more closely with exotic pets as a member of the BVS team!
